The “American Corner Sibiu”, an established cultural center officially inaugurated in December 2022, is a United States Department of State-sponsored initiative and a partnership between the U.S. Embassy in Bucharest/ Romania and ASTRA County Library of Sibiu, Romania.
The mission of the American Corner Sibiu is to build authentic trust and a safe cultural space for Romanian and US citizens in the region. It serves various communities, provides reliable information, diverse resources, and a framework for a wide range of cultural and educational activities. It hosts programs highlighting American culture and the values of democracy, English-speaking courses, workshops on countering disinformation, various discussion groups, seminars, exhibits, meetings with U.S. and local representatives specializing in American studies.
The American Corner Sibiu provides access to the general public to a valuable repository for books, DVDs, CD-ROMs, and e-books focusing on the English language and American culture, as well as complimentary access to the Internet and various educational materials.
